Federal judge and lawyer The Honorable Robert L. Carter (1917 - 2012 ) began his law career as an assistant to Thurgood Marshall. Later, Carter became a lawyer for the NAACP for twenty-four years. During his tenure, he argued twenty-two cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, including Brown v. Board of Education, and won twenty-one. Carter was appointed as a U.S. District Court Judge for the Southern District of New York in 1972. Carter was interviewed by The HistoryMakers on 5/22/2001, in New York, New York. This collection is comprised of the video footage of the interview.
